A STORMING performance by Sowerby Bridge based darts ace Scott Waites saw him triumph in the county qualifiers for the prestigious Gold Cup event.

More than 100 competitors took part in the qualifer at Castleford with Waites surging through to the semi final where he took on and beat his regular doubles partner Gary Thompson of Skipton 3-2.

And he continued his good form in the final where he saw off Bradford's VJ Kumar 3-0.

Waites will now go forward along with 35 other county winners to the finals day of the Gold Cup which takes place on July 12 at the famous Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green.

But before that he has a TV date as he competes in the British Open at Bolton tomorrow which is being covered live on Sky Sports.
